Bolsonaro has been arrested after authorities determined he posed a concrete flight risk while under domestic detention.

The former head of state was sentenced of orchestrating a government overthrow in last fall and sentenced more than 27 years in jail, but he remained under house arrest pending court reviews.

Details of Guilty Verdict

Bolsonaro was found guilty of heading a scheme aimed at maintaining his control after he failed to win the national vote to his left-wing rival, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva.

Supreme Court justices said that he knew of a scheme which encompassed plans to assassinate his opponent and his running partner, Alckmin, and to arrest and execute the presiding judge - the top judicial official who has been managing his judicial proceedings.

The plot was prevented because it failed to get the endorsement of the armed forces officials. His successor was inaugurated without issue on 1 January 2023.
